Jess talks about the Dove Campaign and answers a few fan questions.
How did you get involved with Dove and the go sleeveless campaign?
I’m working with them right now to help promote their go sleeveless Deodorant! Dove did a study on women and found that tons of them are shy about exposing their underarms, and it affects what women can wear. Fashion is a big part of my life and I wanted to let women know there’s a product out there that can help improve their underarm appearance in just five days. Now we’re kicking off the fashion challenge; you go online and design your own sleeveless top, and the winning design gets to come to New York City on a fashion trip! They receive $5,000 for a shopping spree and get to go shopping with me!
@rachg4 asks: What products do you use on your hair?
I do a lot of dry shampoo. My hair just works better when it’s not as clean! I use a lot of dry shampoo so that my hair always smells good. I like Kerastase products—I use their shampoo and conditioner.
@evalita asks: How would you describe your personal style? What’s your favorite article of clothing? My personal style is kind of tomboy-boho chic! Sort of funky but simple. I wear very inexpensive things from a vintage shop and I’ll mix in a Marc Jacobs bag. I don’t like it when you look too styled and wear one designer from head to toe. I like to mix designer things with a boys white v-neck from Target, for example. So I guess my style is a mix of boho-chic/high fashion/thrift! I have a Proenza jacket I love—the detailing is really cool and it’s not too heavy, so it’s really versatile. I have a gold watch by Zadig & Voltaire and it’s kind of a staple as well. I also have a pair of Chris Benz shoes that I got recently and have been wearing a lot—black platforms with a really cool design. Those are my three staple things right now. They’re all accessories because I kind of feel like if you have a great pair of jeans and a top that makes you feel good, that’s all you need clothes-wise. Accessories make it better!
@AthayaMe asks: How do you stay in shape? What kinds of exercises do you like to do? I do a lot of yoga! We’re off of the show right now for a few months, so I’m in LA and I like to hike when I’m there. I’ve been doing Tracy Anderson’s workout too, which is great. And also my uncle, Brian Szohr, is a fitness trainer in Wisconsin, so he trains me when he has time!
Jessica Szohr has a lot going for her. The 25-year-old actress is gorgeous (People magazine named her among their list of 2010′s Most Beautiful People in the World), she plays Vanessa on TV’s hit show “Gossip Girl” and she has a movie – Piranha 3D – out this month.
iheartradio sat down with Jessica to talk about her new film, hit show, what she’s afraid of, shooting make-out scenes and much more!
On whether Piranha 3D is a horror film or a comedy:
“You will definitely laugh a lot, you will cover your eyes a few times, you will be on the edge of your seat. So, it’s kind of all that put into one.”
On horror films: “I like horror films… it’s fun when you’re scared and you jump into your friends lap screaming. I get scared pretty easily… When that music starts and you don’t know what’s behind the corner and you’re anticipating it, but you don’t want to…”
On what she’s afraid of: I’m terrified of rats. When I first moved [to New York] and my call time for work would be like 4:00 in the morning – so it’s still dark out – I lived on a small street so the van couldn’t come pick me up in front. I’d have to walk to the corner and I’d put my iPod on and stomp down the street because I’d be so scared that they’d running out. I’m deathly scared of them. I don’t know why because they are more scared of us, but they freak me out. I think they’re gross.”
On working with an all-star cast that includes Elisabeth Shue, Christopher Lloyd, Jerry O’Connell, Richard Dreyfuss: “It was amazing to work with this incredible cast. Most of my scenes were with Jerry O’Connell, who is just hilarious the entire time. There were scenes I couldn’t get through because I was laughing so hard. Back to the Future I loved, so I’m like, ‘Oh my God! That’s the Doc!’ Adventures in Babysitting, I was a big fan of. It’s a classic, so it was neat to work with Elisabeth Shue.”
On making out with a female porn star for the movie: “Um, I think I have a couple make out scenes. There is a little crazy stuff that goes on, but it was all in good fun. And it just was simple. My character is a good character so everything that she does in this is done tastefully.”
On make-out scenes in general: “After seasons of ‘Gossip Girl’ when every single character has made out with each other… As an actor, it’s a stage kiss, so there’s no real thing going on. I think all of us on the show will never have a problem with a kissing scene because of ‘Gossip Girl.’”
On filming season 4 of ‘Gossip Girl’: “We’re on our fourth episode. I don’t really know what I can and can’t say… there’s a ton of OMG moments, great fashion, good music. There’s a bunch of drama. That’s how I feel every episode is, like is this happening, really? This is what’s going on?”
On what she hearts: “I heart going to see live music a lot. I’m a big, huge music fan. I heart yoga, shopping, traveling. I heart being in sweatpants on my couch.”
Piranha 3D hits theaters August 20. Season 4 of “Gossip Girl” premieres on the CW September 13.
Jess appeared on the WPIX Morning News this morning to discuss her new movie, Piranha 3d. View the vid below.
Gossip Girl’s Jessica Szohr takes a break from the Upper East Side to star in the newest thriller Piranha 3D.
Jessica plays the role of Kelly who heads to Lake Victoria with friends for a spring break they may never forget. Once an underwater tremor sets loose a school of fierce and hungry piranhas, a group of teenagers have much more to worry about then your regular hangover.
Starring alongside Jessica are Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, Elisabeth Shue, Richard Dreyfuss and Jerry O’Connell. Piranha 3D hits theaters August 20th
Little article from Metro News with more of Jess talking about Piranha 3d.
With a movie like Piranha 3D, it’ s pretty safe to assume you know what you’ re going to get.
In fact, if there were any doubt, director Alexandre Aja recently described the film as a mix between Gremlins, Weird Science and Dead Alive.
“It is funny,” exclaimed star Jessica Szohr (Gossip Girl) from Manhattan. “I think you’ ll laugh, you’ ll be very scared and entertained — it’ s a scary, funny, summer popcorn movie.”
Even the studio’ s marketing department has picked up on Piranha 3D’ s potential as a fun summer movie. The film’ s poster fittingly pays homage to Steven Spielberg’ s classic Jaws but while that 1975 thriller featured a menacing shark, Piranha 3D stars a mutated form of nasty omnivorous freshwater fish.
“(The filmmakers) based it off a prehistoric piranha, so it’ s not like your modern-day piranha, and they kind of decided to make it look like what they thought a prehistoric one would look like,” said Szohr. Indeed, the species in the thriller is definitely bigger, uglier and much nastier — especially in 3-D. “It’ ll be fun (to see) with the piranhas popping out at you and all the craziness that goes on.”
Presumably, Hollywood will be banking on flesh-eating fish to have the same effect Jaws had on audiences more than 30 years ago — fear of the water. Even more than three-dimensional seafood, that natural phobia may be the true potency of Piranha 3D.
“We don’ t know what’ s going on (underwater). You can’t see and you can only go under for so long if you want to check out what’ s going on. It’ s just a whole mystery of what is there,” said Szohr with a dramatic pause. “…Or what’ s not.”
Here’s a cute little backstage video of Jess talking about her look on Regis and Kelly.
She’s wearing one earring, shoes and white skinny jeans from Topshop, her shirt is from American Apparel and her gold watch is Zaldig and Voltaire. Thanks to Karla for the tip!
Nice little interview from Parade.com. It’s a little long, so click ‘read more’ for the rest of the article.
To Gossip Girl fans, exotic beauty Jessica Szohr is better known as Vanessa, the New York City outsider pulled into the antics of the Upper East Side’s most privileged. Now, Szohr is getting into an entirely different kind of trouble playing a spring breaker fending off murderous fish in the new horror flick Piranha 3D.
The Wisconsin native spoke to Parade.com about getting starstuck on the set, what she can’t stand about her TV alter-ego Vanessa, and why she steers clear of real-life gossip.
What audiences can expect from Piranha 3D. “It’s a fun, summer, scary, entertaining popcorn movie. You’re gonna laugh, you’re gonna turn your head, you’re gonna be freaked out. I feel like I put a lot of trust in the director and all of us as a team together, so I hope that people enjoy it as much as we enjoyed doing it.”
She admits to getting little starstruck by Piranha’s impressive cast. “Richard Dreyfuss and Christopher Lloyd — they actually had them come in and shoot a lot of their stuff really quickly, so I didn’t really have scenes with them. I met Christopher Lloyd and I’m a big fan of Back to the Future, so I was like, ‘Oh, my God. That’s the Doc. This is so crazy.’ I worked with Elisabeth Shue a lot and I was so nervous to meet her. One of my first and favorite movies that I saw growing up was Adventures in Babysitting. I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ She was really great to work with.”
Looks like it’s press day for Jess and Piranha 3d! I’ve got two more videos of live interviews where Jess talks about her new movie, doing her own stunts and the likes. Thanks to Karla for the second video!
